Civil War Veteran Buried April 22
Funeral Services will be held Sunday Afternoon at two o'clock from the Lawton Community hall for James Donahue, aged Civil War veteran who was found dead by his son Tuesday afternoon. Rev J Smith of Edmore will conduct the last Rites. He was a member of the Devils Lake G.A.R. post. Legionaires from Edmore and Lawton will attend the services.

He was born January 5, 1847, at Buffalo N.Y, later going to Iowa. At the Outbreak of the CIvil War he enlisted at Decorah, Iowa and was a member of Company M first Iowa cavaliers. Nov 8 1888 he married Miss Loretta S Bowers of Elva Wisc. Since 1898 he has been farming near Lawton.

Surving are his widow Loretta and sons Harry with whom he made his home. F.W. Donahue of Grafton, James Donahue Jr of Spolane, Wash and Two daughters Mrs Thor Hjeimstad of Lawton and Mrs Fred Stamm of Waseka, Sask. Four sisters also survive.

~Notes: James Donahoe/Donahue was married to Elizabeth O'Hare and they lived in Union Prairie, Allamakee County in 1880 they had children Frederick & James Jr. Elizabeth died and Frederick & James Jr. lived with Elizabeth's mother Mary O'Hare, also in Union Prairie Allamakee County Iowa until James remarried Loretta Bowers and moved to ND.

James was raised in the home of Terrence O'Laughlin and Bridget Donahoe O'Laughlin also of Union Prairie Allamakee County. Im not sure if he was Bridget's son or her brother.
