John L. Wolfe, age 69, of Harpers Ferry, died Monday, September 1, 2003, in his home. Funeral services were held Friday, September 5 at St. Ann's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Paint Rock Cemetery, rural Harpers Ferry. Hansen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
John was born August 8, 1934, in rural Harpers Ferry, the son of Bill and Beulah (Bloxham) Wolfe. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 and 1961-1962.
On April 28, 1962, he married Dianne Erding at St. Pius Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry.
John was a farmer and lifelong resident of Harpers Ferry and was active in the community, serving on many boards including Draft Board, FHA, Extension Council, Township Trustee, Parish Council, Harpers Ferry Fire Department, and Harpers Ferry American Legion. He was also a charter member of World Wide Inc.
He loved his farm, hunting, his family and friends, and was an avid Cardinal fan. John enjoyed a good story and many cups of coffee with all of his friends at Harpers Ferry.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne; five children, David (Vicky) Wolfe of Harpers Ferry, Larry (Diane) Wolfe of Waukon, Sharon Stewart of Columbus Junction, Iowa, Donald (Kristi) Wolfe of Maynard, Iowa, and Nancy Wolfe of Marion; ten grandchildren; and four siblings, Allan (Mary) Wolfe, Bev (Ding) Sather, Mary (Richard) Stenberg, all of Cedar Rapids, and Rose (Leo) Delay of Monticello, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a five-month-old daughter, Mary Christine Wolfe.
Casketbearers were Dick Saddler, Pat Delaney, Norbert Palmer, Galen Kuhens, Rudy Hesla, and Rich Leiran. Honorary casketbearers were John's deer hunting friends.
