Friday, 14 April 1911, Postville Review, Obituary, p5, c4:

HARNACK.

Mrs. Johanne Mary Caroline Harnack, whose maiden name was Schmidt, was born in Jargenon, Germany, November 13, 1853, and died at her home in Postville about 7 o’clock, Wednesday morning, April 5, 1911, aged 57 years, 4 months add [sic] 23 days.

After being confirmed she emigrated with her parents to America in 1868, settling first near Clayton Center. On April 27, 1870, she was married to Jochen Harnack. To this union were born 13 children, 7 boys and 6 girls, of whom 11 survive, namely—Fred, Christ F., Louis, John, Jochen, Lester, Mrs. William Eberling, Mrs. Henry Block, Mrs. John Sebastian, all near Postville; Mrs. Henry Moos [Mohs], of Lim Springs, and Mrs. Louis Schmidt, of Steele Co., Minn.

In March 1899 the deceased with her family came to Grand Meadow township, three miles south of Postville, where they resided until March 1, 1911, when they moved to Postville in their own home. But after having it as they wished, Mrs. Harnack’s illness took a change for the worse. During the preparatory service her soul passed away. She is survived by his husband, six sons, (who were the pall bearers) five daughters, 3 brothers, a sister, grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

The funeral was held from the Lutheran church last Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. R. Kuehne officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
