JOHN SCHLEE IS CALLED TO ETERNAL REWARD

John Carl Schlee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schlee, was born in Clayton county, Iowa, August 1, 1887. On September 14, 1887, he was received into the household of God through the sacrament of baptism administered in St. Paul’s Lutheran church. On May 23, 1902, he renewed his baptismal covenant in the rite of confirmation and became a communicant member of the church, and for the last four years was a member of the Community church at Frankville.

On June 15, 1910, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Warnholtz of near Postville Junction. They first established their home on the Dahms farm near Postville Junction and later removed to a farm in Clayton county and from there he moved to Winneshiek county, where he resided when he was taken ill on August 4, 1928. He was at once taken to Postville Hospital, where all possible was done for him, and on August 27 he was taken to the State Hospital at Independence for further treatment, and here he was stricken with pneumonia, and on Sunday, Sept. 2 the good Lord called him home.

Their union was blessed with five children, Margaret, Leonard, Willard, Lawrence, and one boy who preceded him in death. These four with the wife survive to mourn the loss of a husband and father who was dutiful, loving and kind.

Aside from those above mentioned he is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Schlee; three brothers, Louis and Edward of this vicinity and Henry of Gladbrook, and one sister, Mrs. Walter Casten of Locust, as well as many other relatives.

Mr. Schlee was known to all as an honest, upright and industrious man. He was genial, courteous and kind, a man who made friends of those with whom he came in contact. He was a good citizen, loving and dutiful husband and father, whose untimely passing will be mourned by all who knew him.

The funeral was held from St. Paul’s Lutheran church in this city at one thirty o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 5, Rev. E. T. Finck officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Casten and daughter of Locust, Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Schlee of Gladbrook, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt and Mrs. Chas. Schmidt of Garnavillo, Albert Hueckstedt of Farmersburg and Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Schmidt of Owatonna, Minn., were among those from out of town in attendance at the funeral.
