Evelyn Meyer, 84, formerly of New Albin, died Sunday June 1, 1997 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon.
She was born March 12, 1913 on Houge Ridge, Sheldon Township, Minn. to Halvor and Annie (Moen) Peterson. She attended grade school on Houge Ridge and graduated in 1931 from Caledonia High School. She than lived in and worked in the Chicago area for several years before returning to New Albin.
On Oct. 21. 1944 Evelyn married Harry Meyer in Caledonia. They lived and farmed east of Eitzen, Minn. for 52 years before moving into the Buckley apartments in Caledonia.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Carol Ashland of Minneapolis and Shirley (Willard) Meyer of Dorchester; four grandchildren, Stanley (Bev) Meyer, Brian (Lois) Meyer, Peggy (Jeb) Burrichter, and Lori Meyer; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Peterson of Spring Grove, Minn. and Lloyd (Jean) Peterson of Plano, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Peterson of LaCrosse and Myrtle Peterson of Caledonia.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a son Gregory Meyer; five sisters, Alena, Florence, Hilda, Alice and Gena; and six brothers, Leonard, Helmer, Oscar, Orvin, Sammy and Abner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday June 4 at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen. The Rev. Thomas Laufer officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, was in charge of arrangements.
