Ervin Carl Miene

Ervin C. Miene, 76, of Waukon, died Monday, July 27 at his home in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, IA with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.

Ervin Carl Miene was born April 30, 1922 on the Post Township farm of his parents, Henry W. Sr., and Ella (Ehde) Miene. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville and attended the rural Evergreen School. On June 25, 1942 he married Mildred Brandsmeier at her parents rural Waukon home. Ervin spent many years as a farmer and an independent truck driver. He drove trucks for Bolson and Hall Roberts Feed Services for several years and plowed gardens and snow for many people around Waukon. Ervin enjoyed hunting and the outdoors but a fall in 1966 in which he broke both his legs limited his ability to get around. He still enjoyed taking drives in the countryside and around town and often took his pet dogs with him on rides. He also enjoyed working on cars, doing carpentry work, and helping family and friends with projects.

Ervin is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Margaret Klocke, Viola Olson and Gertrude Miene; his brother, Herbert Miene.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; his daughter, Julie (Jim) Halverson of Monona; two sons, Arvey of Van Horne, IA and Richard (Faith) of Toddville, IA; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; his brother, Henry (Carol) Miene, Jr. of Waukon; his sisters-in-law, Lois Brandsmeier and Emma Miene of Waukon.

Honorary casket bearers were Mervin and LaVon Steffenson, Thomas and Ethel Stone,Robert and Irene Stock, Leo and Dorothy Klocke and Kenneth and Judy Ferguson. Casket bearers were Phillip Young, Gordon Olson, Richard Holliday, Curtis Brandsmeier, Merlyn Klocke and Joe Stammeyer.
