Dick Mohn
Dick Mohn, 81, of Waukon, died Sunday, November 23 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, IA, with Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon.
Douglas Richard "Dick" Mohn was born October 4, 1916 in the Wexford area of rural Lansing on the farm of his parents, Jesse and Lillian (Boardman) Mohn. He attended the rural Wexford School and went to work for several area farmers. On October 16, 1945 he married Mary (Mooney) Birdsell at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Dick worked for a number of Waukon area stores before retiring from the Gambles store in 1979. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a former member of St. Matthew's Council KC's and the Waukon Golf and Country Club. Dick enjoyed golf, gardening and raising flowers and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Joe, Merle and Tom Mohn.
Survivors included his wife Mary; his daughters, Elizabeth "Betty" (David) Spehar of Greendale, WI and Donna (Dave) Dull of Postville; his sons, Bob (Margie) Birdsell of Fox Point, WI and Bill (JoEllen) Mohn of Madrid, IA; his sister, Rose Kelly of Harpers Ferry; his brother, George Mohn of Waukon and 12 grandchildren.
Casket bearers were Jim Wadsworth, Maurice Mooney, Tom Mohn, Jim Kelly, Howard Van Ruler and Rod Fink.
