Lucille F. McCormick, 91, of Waukon, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 am at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry, IA, with Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Lucille Fern McCormick was born on January 21, 1911 in Elkader, IA, to Orlo and Almeda (Chapin) Boardman. She attended school in Elkader and Waukon Junction before graduating in Normal Training from Waterville High School in 1928. Later, she took several courses at Iowa State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls. She taught rural school at Linton #1 for a short time.
On January 2, 1930, she married Frank McCormick in Elkader. They farmed together in the Cherry Mound area for many years with Lucille being active in all aspects of the farm operation. In 1986, they moved to Rossville. Frank died in 1987 and Lucille stayed in Rossville until 1998, when she moved to Makee Manor. She spent her last month at Northgate Care Center in Waukon.
Lucille was a member of St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, cooking and baking, and watching television. She was also very fond of playing games with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frank.
Survivors include two daughters, Fern (Mark) Corrigan of Cedar Rapids and Dolores (Earl) Fish of Rossville; three sons, Norman (Peggy) of Monticello, IA, Donald (Barb) of Harpers Ferry, and Earl (Helen) of Blanchard, OK; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a sister,Vella Harberts of Garnavillo; and a brother, John Boardman of Monona.
Casketbearers were David Fish Sr., Mark, Loren, and Brian Corrigan, and Steve, Mike, Jeff, Steve, and Matt McCormick.
