STRUB, George Vincent

George Vincent Strub,83,of Sumner,Iowa,died Tuesday, November 2,2010,at Community Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1927, in Waukon, Iowa, son of George and Lucy (Hollinger) Strub. He married Shirley Schlitter on June 8,1948 at St.Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1945. Mr. Strub served with the US Navy from 1945-47 in Guam,Truk, and Hawaii. The couple farmed in the Sumner and surrounding areas for several years. He worked at Pepsi and Titus in Waterloo and was a supervisor at Bremer County Landfill for 15 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St.John Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Patricia (Randy) Ohrt of Fairbank and Jo (John) Lang of Sumner, a son, Lee (Laura) Strub of New Brighton, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a brother, Richard (Helen) Strub of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by twin daughters in infancy. Services were held on Friday, November 5,2010 at St.John Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery, both in Sumner. Public visitation from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner and for an hour before services at the church. Military rites were conducted by Thomas E. Woods Post 223 American Legion of Sumner.
