Dorothy C. Roe was born Feb. 26, 1910 in Lansing to August and Clara (Schweinfurth) Meyer and attended rural Allamakee County schools.
Aug. 20, 1930, she married Lloyd Roe in Lansing. They farmed in the Harpers Ferry and Waterville areas before moving to Waukon in 1916. In 1953 they moved to Phoenix, AZ and from 1967-1977 they lived in Atlanta, GA, returning to Waukon in 1978. Dorothy had been employed as an egg candler for Goodrich Produce.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and it's Sarah Circle, Waterville Senior Citizens Card Club and Veterans Memorial Auxiliary.
She was a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Center and Makee Manor, and part of the "adopt a grandparent" program at the Waukon school.
Dorothy died Friday, June 9, 1995 at Veterans Memorial Hospital; she was 85.
Surviving are two sons, Everett and wife Carol of Whitesburg, GA, and Cletus of Ypsilanti. MI; a sister Irene Meyer of Waukon; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1977, and three brothers, Herbert, Harry and Alfred.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12 at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating, Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Ed Stampfer, Willard Roe Sr., Jim Teepe, Tom Blake, Lenny Reeder, Marvin Roe and Jimmy Meyer.
Honorary bearers were Bob Hagen, Charles Bulman, Mel Reeder, Nancy Zmolek, Martha Blake and Lori Snitker.Allamakee Journal, Lansing, IA - June 14, 1995 - page 6
