Dennis James O'Malley, 70, of Lansing, died suddenly Tuesday , June 6, 1995 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon.
He was born May 7, 1925 in French Creek Township near Waukon to parents Joseph and Loretta Connor O'Malley. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Kathleen Spinner on Oct. 31, 1949 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon.
He worked in the insurance business and did tax preparation in Lansing from 1953 to 1988. He served as city clerk and was a volunteer fireman for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; three sons, Tim and Mark O'Malley, both of Lansing; Jon O'Malley of McCook Lake, S.D.; five daughters, Ann O'Malley (John Maass) of LaCrescent, MN; Joan (Bob) Karis and Kim (Alan) Carlson, both of Madison, WI; Peggy "Meg" O'Malley of Carrolton, TX; Erin O'Malley of Lansing; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mary E. Zoll of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Joe "Reg" O'Malley of Waterloo, Bill and Pat O'Malley, both of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Beth; stepfather Francis Flynn and a granddaughter, Liberty Maass.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing, with military honors by the Lansing V.F.W. and American Legion. Fr. Herbert Tegeler and Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiated.
Pallbearers were David O'Malley, Mike O'Malley, Joe Zoll, David Spinner, Raymond Benson and David Halverson.
Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Halverson, Dan Murphy, John Hogan, Jim Dougherty, Earl Gander, Glen Connor and Brad Maass.
