Died. At his home in Postville, Iowa, Saturday, April 23d, 1898, of chronic stomach disease, Charles John Oehring, aged 67 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Deceased was born Dec 8th, 1829, in Weisenback, Bavaria, Germany. Came to the United States, Oct. 22d, 1858, arriving in New York, in which state he remained for some time, being in the employ of J.S. Mott part of that time. January 4th, 1864, he enlisted in Co. E., 2d Reg. N.Y. Cavalry, from which he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal Aug. 9, 1865. Shortly after leaving the army he came west, locating in postville, where his former employer - Mr. Mott - had preceeded him, whose employ he again entered. Later he moved to North McGregor, working for the Seeley & Shaw sash and blind firm; and later for the lumber firm of Haight & Burdick. In 1872 he engaged with the W.& J. Flemming lumber firm, with whom he served for seventeen years.

December 22d, he was married to Johanna Gaulk, of Prairie du Chien, who with three sons - Charles, of Elkader; Fred, of McGregor, and William, of this city - are left to mourn the departure of a faithful husband, father and counsellor. In 1889 the family moved back to Postville, which has been their home ever since and where Mr. Oehring had the esteem and good will of almost every person in the community. Deceased had many friends in surrounding towns who express deepest sorrow with the people of Postville in the bereavement which has befallen this estimable family.

The funeral occurred Monday afternoon at the German Lutheran church, Rev. Mr. Schumann officiating.
