James "Coach" R. Delaney, 52, of Kenosha, Wisconsin died July 14, 1995 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha of injuries sustained in a fire at his home.
He was born June 26, 1943 at Lansing, Iowa, the son of Patrick James Delaney and Evelyn M. (Mullarkey) Delaney. He graduated from local Lansing schools and went to Kenosha as a young man to seek employment. He was employed at Morelli Export for 28 years until Morelli Export closed. He was also employed by the Laborer's Union. At the time of his death he was employed at the Brat Shop.
James was a member of the St. Casimer Catholic Church in Kenosha; president of I.L.A. Local #1315 where he also served as vice president for many years; and Moose Lodge #286. He was an umpire in the Kenosha City League for several years, was an avid hunter, an accomplished handyman and a loyal "Iowa" fan.
He married Kathleen A. Zukowski on April 20, 1974 at St. George Church in Kenosha. His wife survives him as do two sons, Shawn P. Delaney and James R. Delaney, both at home.
Also surviving are five brothers, Thomas Delaney of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Leo Delaney of Tombahl, Texas and Daniel Delaney, George Delaney and Francis Delaney, all of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William. His daughter, Shannon Nicole Delaney, 9, died two days later as a result of the same fire.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 20th at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Casimer Catholic Church with internment in St. Casimer Cemetery. Piasecki Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
