WELPER, WOHLERS, DRESSELHAUS, GRUBER, WOGHAN

Merle L. Welper, 53, of New Albin died Thursday, June 1, 1995, from injuries resulting from a roofing accident in Houston County.
He was born June 18, 1941 in Reno, MN to Leander and Helen Wohlers Welper. On June 24, 1961, he married Sheryl Dresselhaus at Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin. Merle was a 1959 graduate from New Albin High School. He also graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, a Master's degree from Southern Illinois and an Administration degree from Winona State University. Merle taught math and science for 31 years at Kee High School in Lansing.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin. He was a longtime member of the New Albin Volunteer Fire Department, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Merle was a family man who lived each day to it's fullest. He spent most of his time outdoors with family and friends, enjoying his many hobbies including fishing, hunting, working in his garage, and visiting with family and friends. He was a "teacher" in many ways, enjoying experiencing new things and seeing others excel as well. He took pride in everything he did. He will be remembered as the best husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend anyone could ever have. He will be missed dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Rae Welper of New Albin; three daughters, Lisa (Dennis Gruber) of Wichita, KS, Linda (Timothy) Wogahn of Lee's Summit, MO and Lana Welper of Ames; a son Marty of New Albin; a grandson Nathan Gruber, a brother LaVern Welper of New Albin; an uncle, Ray "Doc" Wohlers of Reno, MN; an aunt, Lois (John Reburn); a niece, Jody Johnson and family, all of New Albin.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in Grace United Methodist Churcn, New Albin. The Rev. Thomas Mattson officiated. Burial was in the New Albin Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Dee, David Weymiller, Gillie Meyer, Sterling Ness, Jim Hanson and Kent Schultz.
The Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home of Caledonia, MN was in charge of arrangements.
