Obituary in Lansing paper Wednesday July 8, 1903
The Old and Young Are Called
JOSEPH Zoll, SR
Mention of whose serious illness was made in our last, gave up the ghost at 6:30 PM Wednesday, aged 83 years. Deceased was a native of Bavaria, Germany and had resided in Allamakee county over half a century, part of the time on a farm in French Creek township, now occupied by his sons John and William. They first settled in Lansing but in 1864 purchased the farm in French Creek. He was married in New York city in 1848, and the widow and six grown children survive him. Besides the two mentioned, are Joseph Blase and Mrs Joseph Hess of Lansing, Alex of Chicago and Sister Northburga of St. Mary's Infirmary, St Louis, MO, all of whom were present at the funeral Friday morning from the Catholic church, following a Solemn Requiem High Mass. His brother John of Volga, S. D., now the sole survivor of a family of nine, was also in attendance, and a strange coincidence of his coming is the fact that he knew nothing of his brother's illness but on Wednesday was seized with an irrepressible desire to see him and started at once. Peace to the ashes of an old friend and neighbor.
