Life Long Resident Passes Away Suddenly

---------------

Mr. John Stirn, 77, passed away quietly in his sleep at his home on North Street Friday evening while sitting in the room with his daily paper. He had worked all day at the lumber yard and it was his custom to read a while each night before retiring. He had been his usual self following supper and was found in the above described condition when his wife returned from attending Novena devotions at the church nearby. It was a great shock to this good lady who called the doctor and the two sons, Herbert and Leo, who reside in Lansing.

Following his education in the rural schools he was married Oct. 6th, 1896, by the late Father Haxmeier, to Josephine Ringenbach, who with their five sons and one daughter will mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. Besides the above mentioned sons survivors include, Father A. F. Stirn, Iola, Ia.; Father Clarence C. Stirn, Milligan, Nebr.; Clement G. Stirn, Drummond, Mont.; Mrs. Florence Hurley, La Crosse, Wis. Mr. Stirn was a lifelong farmer retired since 1929 when he moved to Lansing which has since been his home. He served as township trustee for several years and was a member of St. Matthews Court No. 1570, Waukon, Knights of Columbus, who on Sunday afternoon sent a delegation to pay their last respects to a departed brother and friend, saying the Rosary and the Burke Funeral Chapel for the repose of his soul.

Funeral services were held at Immaculate Conception Church, yesterday morning at ten o’clock. Archbishop Henry P. Rohlman of Dubuque presided over the offering of a solemn Requiem Mass with Rev. A. F. Stirn, celebrant, Rev. C. C. Stirn, deacon, and Rev. M. M. Hoffman, sub-deacon, the latter delivering an appropriate sermon to the sorrowing relatives and friends. Burial was in the family lot in Gethsemane Cemetery and carrying his mortal remains to their final resting place were Carl Wagner, Nick and John Ferring, Alex Knutson, Theodore Weipert and Phillip Rethwisch.
