Clarence Dee

Clarence Edwin Dee, 90, of Waukon, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at the Northgate Care Center in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with the Rev. Richard Eick officiating.

Casket bearers were Alan Hanson, John Hanson, Duane Dee, Jim Vaverka, Curtis Swayze, Rob Johnson, Mark Weighner and Jeff Troendle.

Honorary bearers were Irving Walsh, Melvin Steffenson, Peter Bieber, Norman Reeves, Karl Bechtel and Robert J. Stock.

Burial was at the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. The Martin Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Clarence was born Dec. 1, 1908, in Jefferson Township of Allamakee County, the son of Berthold and Mary (Selberg) Dee. He was baptized Dec. 28, 1908, and confirmed May 28, 1922, at Zion Reformed Church. He attended public school in Waukon through the eighth grade.

On Oct. 5, 1937, Clarence was united in marriage with Hazel Annetta Hanson at the Lutheran parsonage in Monona.

They farmed together in rural Waukon until moving to Waukon Nov. 20, 1983.

Clarence was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He enjoyed farming, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren. He and his father would buy, sell and break horses.

Health problems made it necessary for Clarence to move to Northgate Care Center in Waukon Nov. 1, 1997.

Survivors include four sons, Edwin and Terry Dee of Minnetonka, Minn., Cliff and Donna Dee of Waukon, Don and Michelle Dee of Waukon, and Gene and Pam Dee of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Gloria and Robert Hanson of Waukon; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Clarence Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Lawrence; one sister, Rosa Nolting; and one granddaughter, Kathryn Dee.
