Genevieve Laura Tackman

Genevieve Laura Tackman, 78, of died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral service were held Friday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating.

Casket bearers were Bob, Ervin and Kenny Tackman; Rick and Derrek Johnson; and the Rev. Lynn Giroe.

Burial was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery in Guttenberg. The Martin Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Genevieve (White) Tackman was born April 30, 1922, on a farm near Turkey River, Iowa, the daughter of Nelson and Elsie (Minger) White. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg and had most recently been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. She attended the rural Hunter-School near Turkey River. Following school, she moved to Guttenberg. She worked there for a short time at the button factory and later did some babysitting.

On Jan. 23, 1941, she married Delbert H. Tackman in Guttenberg. They farmed together in Clayton County for many years, with Genevieve raising and caring for many hives of bees.

In 1960 she moved to Waukon, where she had lived ever since. Genevieve enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and other handiwork. She was a good cook and enjoyed food, especially eating out. She also liked to read, play cards, and bingo, listen to music and go dancing.

Survivors include one son, Allen and Eileen Tackman of Decorah; two grandchildren, Bonnie and Rick Johnson and Brian Tackman; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Billmeyer of Elkport, Iva and Bill Ballsinger of Elkport, and Helen Bayne of Elkader; and a brother, Lawrence and Mary Jane White of Elkport.

Genevieve Tackman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert; one son, Lloyd Tackman; two sisters, Vivian Ingles and Naomi Oddon; and six brothers, Ed, Everett and Wayne White, and Howard and LeRoy Kinyon.
