Violet Barr
Services for Violet Barr who died Nov. 14 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville were held Nov. 17 at the Forest Mills United Methodist Church with burial at the Oakland Cemetery. Verdon Swenson conducted the services. Martin Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Tim Hanson, Larry Gelo, Dr. Gordon Gelo, Jim Gelo, Greg Johnson and Brian Johnson.
She was born Sept. 12, 1904 to Julius and Julia (Swenson) Krousie, rural Postville. She attended rural school near Postville called the "Evergreen School".
She was married to Guy Barr on August 20, 1920 by Rev. Van Nice in Waukon. They farmed near Forest Mills for 50 years until they moved to Postville in 1981.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Dorothy Gelo of Postville, Norma Hanson of Zion, IL, 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 2 sisters, Eunice Gelo of Waukon, Helen Rovang of Decorah, and a brother Earl Krousie of Dumont, NJ.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Guy Barr on Aug. 10, 1989 and by 4 brothers: Allen, Robert, John and Bud.
