Marie (Miller) Monthei, 61, Altoona, died Wednesday, April 18. She was a former Postville-Waukon area resident.
Marie Monthei was born in Waukon March 12, 1918, the daughter of Lawrence and Alma (Lawson) Miller. She attended local schools and taught school for six years before marring Lyle J. Monthei in 1943. They settled in Jefferson and to this union eight children were born.
The family moved to Altoona in 1958 and became active in community activities. Marie held the title of PTA president for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle; eight children: Arlo, Roger and Dean Monthei, Altoona; Mrs. Linda Lawson and Mrs. Lana Goldsberry, Altoona; the Rev. Marshall Monthei, What Cheer; Ken Monthei, Tamarac, Fla.; Mrs. Dorothy Perez, Grand Prairie, Tex.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Bulman, Ames; one stepsister, Mrs. Marian Racine, Des Moines, one step-brother, Harold Brown, Jr. of California.
Funeral services were held in Altoona Saturday, April 21.
