Olive Frances Sivesind

Olive Sivesind, 84, of Waukon, died suddenly at her rural Waukon home Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon, with the Rev. Lynn Groe officiating.

Casket bearers were her grandsons, Gary, Gregg, Dan, David and Dennis Sivesind; Mark Troendle; Holden and Luther Olson; and Brian and Timothy Kvam.

Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. The Martin Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Olive Frances (Tolander) Sivesind was born April 20, 1914, on the rural Waterville farm of her parents, Frank and Olivia (Erickson) Tolander. She was baptized at Center Baptist Church and attended rural Waterville area schools before graduating from Waukon High School.

On Oct. 20, 1932, she married John A. Sivesind at her parent's home. Olive and John farmed together west of Waukon for many years. She also worked as a nurse's aid at Northgate Care Center in Waukon for several years.

Olive was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and held many offices in its women's organizations. She also was an active member and held numerous offices in Farm Bureau. She was a recipient of Wallace's Farmer Magazine's "Iowa Master Homemaker Award".

She enjoyed sewing, baking, making rag rugs, and spending time with her family. She liked keeping in touch with her grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Coreen and Kenneth Troendle of Waukon; Marian and T. Hans Olson of Eau Claire, Wis., Alice and David Terbeest of Canton, Minn., and Ann and James Kvam of Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Frank and Carol Sivesind of Waukon, and Gene and Jane Sivesind of Decorah; a daughter-in-law, Donna Sivesind of Waukon; a foster son, Richard and Geneva Nelson of Decorah; a sister, Wilma Jackson of Waukon; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Olive Sivesind was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her son, Gordon, and two infant children, David Allen and Delores Ann; grandchildren Darrel and Angela; and brother, Theodore Tolander.
