Robert J. Eglseder, 72, of Waukon, IA, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30th, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Msgr. Edward Lechtenberg officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be at St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, where there will be a Parish Scripture Service at 4 p.m..

Robert John Eglseder was born on December 28, 1937 in Guttenberg, IA, the son of Cyril and Helen (Pfiffner) Eglseder. He was baptized in Guttenberg. Following the death of his father, the family moved to Allamakee County where Bob was later confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dorchester, IA. On July 11, 1959, he married Doris Schulte at St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Church, rural Waukon, IA. They farmed together in the Hanover area, retiring and moving to Waukon in 1997. During retirement Bob was kept busy with various part time jobs. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, watching baseball and spending time with his grandchildren. Bob will be remembered for being easy going, kind and gentle. He appreciated the important things in life such as family, friends and nature.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Eglseder of Waukon; four daughters, Donna (Kent) Schultz of Frankville, IA, and Diane (Wayne) Hirth, Karen (Paul) Mathis and Janel Eglseder all of Waukon; thirteen grandchildren, Bobby, Jessica and Mitchell Schultz, Nicholas, Jeremy, Alicia, Whitney and Courtney Hirth, Karli and Tanner Mathis, and Danielle, Carter and Brooke Leiran; a sister, Margaret Doubek Hammell of La Crosse, WI; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Eglseder of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; step father, Joseph Doubek; a brother, Clarence Eglseder; and a brother-in-law Cornelius Hammell.

Honorary casketbearers will be his grandchildren.
