Mrs. Emma Thompson passed away at St. Francis Hospital, LaCrosse on Wednesday morning, April 28, 1965, having been in failing health the past several months.
As Emma Wiemerslage she was born November 3, 1876 in Allamakee County near Eitzen, Minn., the youngest daughter of George and Catherine Wiemerslage.
On March 23, 1898 she was united in marriage to Alex Thompson, making their home on a farm in Center township.
In 1902, they moved to McIntosh County, North Dakota, where they resided until 1911, at which time they returned to Lansing, which has since been her home.
To them were born six children; three of whom survive, Esther, Mrs. Clifford Gruber, of Lansing, with whom she made her home during the past 2 years; Selma and George Thompson of Los Angeles, Calif. Preceding her in death beside her husband were three daughters; Elzabeth, (Mrs. Russell Gartz), Viette, (Mrs. Dorf Halverson), and Rozella. Also preceding her in death were three brothers; Gustave, Louis and George Wiemerslage, and three sisters; Mrs. Henry (Dena) Hefty, Mrs. Gottilieb (Louisa) Smith and Mrs. Delbert F. (Lena) Jurgensen.
She is survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Her life was one of devotion and sacrifice to her home, her children and grandchildren; and the influence of her noble Christian character was always true to the home and it's best teachings, the occupations and responsibilities of which were her constant joy. Her passing is mourned by a wide circle of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 30, 1965 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Leslie Leonard officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Albert Hefty, Robert and Thomas Halverson and Clarence, Leland and Ervin Wiemerslage.
