Funeral services were held Monday, May 22, for Miss Bernadine Kelly, 62, of Austin, Minn., who passed away Friday, May 19, following a lingering illness. She was born at New Albin June 2nd, 1905 in this county a daughter of Mary Dolan and Francis L. Kelly, one of several children. She graduated from New Albin high school and in 1932 moved with the family to Brownsdale, Minn. where she was a rural mail carrier 2 years before moving to Austin, Minn. in 1934 which has since been her home and where she was employed by by the Hormel packing co. She was an employee of the American Red Cross in 1942-1944 serving in Bikini, Guam and Japan for which she received a commendation award for meritorious service.
The funeral services were held Monday, May 22nd from St. Joseph's Catholic church here with Father Lebenhagen (sic) offering the Mass of Requiem and saying the final prayers at the graveside in the Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were Earl Welsh, Lawrence Ryan, James Donohue, Joe Reburn, Melvin Darling and Michael Hartley. Her parents preceded her in death and surviving sisters and brothers include: Miss Leota Kelly, Washington D.C.; Miss Kathryne Kelly, San Francisco, Calif.; Miss Margaret Kelly, Berlin, Germany; Mrs. George Garrity, Austin, Minn. and a brother Walter, of that city and another brother, Aelred of Harper Wood, Mich.
