Leo James Mullarkey, 91 of Lansing, died Wednesday August 11, 2010 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Wexford Catholic Church in rural Lansing. Father Donald Hawes and Monsignor Cletus Hawes will officiate at the service. Friends may call Monday August 16th from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., at the Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home in Lansing, where a 4:00 P.M. Scripture Service will be held. Interment will be at Wexford Cemetery in rural Lansing.
Leo James Mullarkey, known as ‘Grandpa’ to everyone, was born May 23, 1919 in LaFayette Township. He was the son of Michael and Mary Brennan Mullarkey. Leo received his education at the Wexford Country school and played catcher on the Wexford Baseball Team. On April 24, 1944 he was united in marriage to Marcella Manning at the Wexford Catholic Church. He spent his life long career doing what he enjoyed, farming in the Wexford area. Leo loved playing cards.
Survivors include his five daughters: Peggy (Leonard) Gebhardt of Cedar Falls IA, Mary Lou (Jerry) Chapin of Waterloo IA, Rita (Roger) Ludwig of Waterloo IA, Joanne (Ronald) Prew of Eastman WI, Jeanne (Curtis) Palmer of Lynxville WI; son-in-law Gary Larson, Waterloo, IA: three sisters: his twin Leonette (Francis) Kernan of Lansing IA, Eleanor O’Neill of Waukon IA, Catherine Dowd of Waterloo IA; one brother: Carl (Mona) Mullarkey of Lansing IA; 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marcella in 1993; daughters: Alice Larson and Marie in infancy; brother: William Mullarkey; sisters: Evelyn Delaney, Marguerite Manning; brothers-in-law: Steve O’Neill, Dan Dowd, James Delaney, and Joe Manning.
