Funeral services for Mrs. Clifford Ellis were held Thursday, March 25, 1999 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. T. M. Marks officiated. Burial was in Sixteen Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Mae Ellis, daughter of Otto and Pearl (Cahoon) Schlitter was born on August 26, 1908 at Sixteen in Allamakee County, near Monona, Iowa. She passed away on March 22, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. Dorothy had reached the age of 90 years, 6 months and 26 days.

She received her early education at the rural school (Linton #4) near her home. Prior to her marriage, Dorothy had worked in many homes helping with the housework and children. On June 15, 1925 she was united in marriage with Clifford Keith Ellis at Rudd, Iowa. They were parents of 3 sons. They made their home in Postville where her husband was a blacksmith all his life, beginning his career with his father. Dorothy worked for Groth Packing Company, the Pines Motel and the Good Samaritan Center in the laundry department.

Dorothy became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on March 21, 1996.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clifford, on January 22, 1989, two grandchildren, Dennis Lee Ellis and Darla Ellis Reinhardt, three brothers, Harold, Ray and Henry Schlitter, and three sisters, Carrie Genz, Hazel Letterman and Laura Valley.

Surviving are her three sons, Lyle and his wife Doris of DeWitt, Darwin and his wife Marilyn, and Gary and his wife Diane, all of Postville, six grandchildren, Larry, Mark, Jason, Kevin, Kent, and Randy Ellis, 12 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Leo (Marci) Schlitter of Aurora, CO, and Fritz (Darlene)Schlitter of Bettendorf, IA, three sisters, Agnes Melsha of Davenport, IA, Lena Linville of Monona, IA, and Bertha (Chester) Swanson of Muscatine, IA.

Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, WELCA and the VFW Auxiliary.

Casket bearers were Mark, Jason, Kevin, Kent and Randy Ellis and Jesse Reinhardt.
