Shirley A. Wuennecke, 80, of New Albin died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Thornton Manor, Lansing.
She was born February 23, 1930 in New Albin to Albert and Louise (Speigler) Meyer. October 1, 1955, Shirley married Edger J. Wuennecke at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin. Together they owned and operated the City Meat Market in New Albin from 1957 until health problems kept them from the store. Edger preceded Shirley in death April 16, 2007.
Shirley enjoyed camping, taking trips down south, bowling, fishing, and playing cards with friends and family. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Church in New Albin and a member of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post 5603, New Albin, Women’s Auxiliary. Shirley will be missed by her many friends and her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Angie (David) Strong; and one son, Alan (Kelley) Wuennecke, both of New Albin; five grandchildren, Erin (Jon) Johnson, Jason (Stacie) Strong, James (Hannah) Strong, and Keri Strong, all of New Albin, and Joshua Dreps serving in the U.S. Navy in Quatar; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kermit Meyer; and one sister, Bernice Wild.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, New Albin. Pastor William J. Reese will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the New Albin Community Center Thursday, May 27 from 5-8 p.m. and at the church Friday, May 28 from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
