Jerome "Jerry" Burke, age 45 of New Albin, died Monday, February 3, 2003, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Funeral Services were held Friday, February 7 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin with Father Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Albin. Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing assisted with arrangements. Jerry was born February 21, 1957, in La Crosse, Wis., to Raymond and Elizabeth (Mauss) Burke. He graduated from Kee High in Lansing in 1975. He was employed as a deck hand in Lansing for the J.F. Brennan Marine Co. of La Crosse. He also worked for Wiebke Fur of Eitzen, Minn. Jerry enjoyed fishing and hunting of all kinds. He was a dedicated morel mushroom hunter, a trapper, a fan of the Green Bay Packers, and enjoyed playing Euchre. Jerry collected Indian artifacts. He loved to sit and visit, dance, and listen to music. Most of all, he loved being with his children. Jerry is survived by two children, Clayton and Briana Burke of Lansing; his father, Ray Burke of New Albin; seven siblings, Joe Burke of Waukon, Janice (Rick) Mon-son of Highlandville, Iowa, John Burke of Decorah, Bernard Burke (fiance Andrea Smerud) of Hortonville, Wis., Jeff (Mary) Burke of Decorah, Jay Burke (special friend Karon Rynerson) of Albert Lea, Minn., and Justin Burke of Sutherland, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Burke, on May 10, 2000; three nephews, Ryan Monson and Jackson and Jeremiah Burke; and his grandparents.
Casketbearers were his brothers, Joe, John, Bernard, Jeff, Jay, and Justin Burke. Honorary casketbearers were Dean Reinke, Ray Mitchell, Tim Weymiller, Don Weymiller, Ron Larson, Bill Moore, and John Schomers.
