Miriam C. Krumme, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1:30 p.m., at the Salem United Church of Christ, rural Waukon, with the Rev. Paul Lionberger officiating.

Casket bearers were Mike Kimber, Jack Alkison, David Dougherty, Calvin Snitker, Roger Hesse and Bernard Snitker.

Burial was at the church cemetery. The Martin Funeral Home of Waukon handled arrangements.

Miriam Caroline (Straate) Krumme was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Waukon, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Goeke) Straate. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, attended the "Eels" rural Union Prairie Township school in Allamakee County and graduated from Waukon High School in 1931.

She taught at the rural Union Prairie Township "Emmett" School for two years.

On Oct. 27, 1934, she married Milton William Krumme in Rochester, Minn. Miriam worked as a homemaker and farm wife on their Ludlow Township farm until moving to Waukon in 1969.

She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and its Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed flower gardening, flea markets and antiques, especially glassware and dishes. Miriam also did quilting and cross stitching and was an excellent cook.

Survivors include two sons, Allen and Peg Krumme of St. Anthony, Minn., and Neil and Ann Krumme of Waukon; and four grandchildren, Keri, Kathy, Christopher and Jonathan.

Miriam Krumme was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton; a brother, Herbert Straate; and an infant sister.
