Funeral services for Mrs. Merle Lubka were held Saturday, March 4, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. T. M. Marks officiated. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Marie Alice Lubka, the daughter of George and Anna (Neumann) Colsch, was born Feb. 18, 1927 near New Albin, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2000 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. She had reached the age of 73 years, and 13 days.

She was baptized March 30, 1945 by the Rev. Thomas Frey and confirmed April 14, 1946 by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Marie attended the schools near her home and graduated from high school in Caledonia, Minnesota.

On June 28, 1945 she was married to Merle Glen Lubka at the Presbyterian Church in Waukon, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Leland, Connie, Reggie and Gary. For three years the couple lived with Merle's parents, they then moved to a farm near Luana. They also farmed in the Volney, Rossville and Postville areas and farmed for 12 years in the Glenwood Church area near Decorah. Marie worked side by side with her husband doing the farm work as well as caring for her family.

She is preceded in death by his parents, her husband, Merle, who died on Dec. 30, 1998, a son, Gary, who died on Sept. 18, 1977, a brother, Elmer Colsch, and two sisters, Esther Svebakken and Laura Colsch.

Surviving are a son, Leland (Joannie) Lubka of Ames, IA, a daughter, Connie (Jim) Rabe of Center Pt., Iowa and a son, Reggie (Laura) Lubka of Postville; six grandchildren, Stacie, Matthew and Michael Rabe, Caleb Lubka and Jennifer and Bridgette Lubka; two brothers, Lawrence Colsch of Fair View, WI, Charles (Hazel) Colsch of Canyon Lake, CA, two sisters, Margaret Pratt of Hemet, CA, and Mabel Haller of West Union, IA, and a dear friend, Frances Fitzpatrick of Postville.

Marie enjoyed her flowers and was very talented with her hand work including quilting despite her crippling arthritis. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and the Women of ELCA.

Casket bearers were David Leubke, Merlin Hansmeier, Gene Svebakken, Les Pratt, Gary Kublitz, Hartley Enyart, Sr.
