REv. J.F. Childress Passes at Charleston, Illinois
Mrs. Nelle C. Baily of Charleston, Ill., sends us the following information concerning the death of her father, Rev. J.F. Childress, at one time a beloved pastor here of the Congregational church:
John Fountain Childress was a son of William Saunders and Temple Ann Barnes Childress, born on March 14, 1858. Two children were born, Mary Ethelle dying in 1916.
Mr. Childress died at the age of 76 years, and had been a resident of Charleston for many years.
Mr. Childress leaves his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Nelle Baily, two brothers, Richard M. of Ashmore and William A. of Charleston, and a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Ann Wilson of Ashmore.
He began his ministry as a Cumberland Presbyterian minister and died as a member of the Presbyterian church here, and was until recently one of its elders. Most of his ministerial life, however, was in the Congregational church. He held pastorates in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Kansas.
