Died at his farm residence, on Henderson Prairie, on Saturday evening, Feb. 16th, 1895, after a long and painful illness, Anton Spoo, in the 66th year of his age.

Anton Spoo was born April 5th, 1829, at Wallessheim, Trier, Prussia. He came to America in October, 1854; was married to Mary Nagel, Feb, 12th, 1861, at Tonawanda, N.Y. They removed to Postville in 1865, where they resided until 1882, then moved to Henderson Prairie on the farm where he died.

He leaves a wife, three sons and a daughter to mourn his loss -- J.S. of Oelwein, Wm. J. and Otto L. at home, and Mrs. Henry Thiese, of Postville.

Mrs. S.C. Brady, a sister of Mrs. Spoo, was here from Buffalo, N.Y. A large concourse of sympathizing friends followed the remains from the home to the Catholic church in Postville, where solemn services were held, Rev. Father Coyle, of Clermont, preached an able and eloquent sermon and the interment was in the old Postville cemetery.

And thus was laid to his final rest one of the kindliest, best hearted and most upright men we ever know. May his long sleep be peaceful, and may a consolation not of earth come to his sorrowing family. and so to our friend and brother we kindly say farewell.

~Postville Review, February 23, 1895
