Funeral services for Elmer Leubka were held Monday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Elmer William Leubka, son of Louis and Anna (Stopperan) Lubka (sic), was born January 30, 1902, in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa. He died Friday, April 22, 1988 in Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, Iowa.

He received his education in the rural schools near his home. At the age of 17, Elmer worked as a carpenter in the Postville area for over 60 years.

In 1930, he married Thelma Thornton at Austin, Minnesota. The couple had 2 children. They have lived in the Postville area all of their lives, and farmed in the Postville Junction area for many years. For the past 14 years, they have lived in their present home in town.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Clarence and Roy Leubka and a sister, Violet Leubka.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma, a son David (Denise) Leubka of Springville, Iowa, a daughter, Donna (David) Reese of Cherry Valley, Illinois, 4 grandchildren, a brother, Merle (Marie) Leubka of Postville, and a sister, Hazel Backhaus, of Waukon.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

Casket bearers were Harva Oelberg, Gerald Heck, Donald Enyart, Harlan Harnack, Dennis Lensing and Irvin Flage.
