CARL KOEHRING

Carl Koehring passed away May 14 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Duvel, his demise following an attack of pneumonia. He was born on the 15th of September, 1857, at Nubel, Lippe Detmold, Germany. There he was instructed and confirmed in the Reformed faith. In 1880 he was united in marriage with Ida Schoenekeck. Five children were born to this union. He emigrated to America in the year 1883, locating near Waukon.

The alotted span of life is three score years and ten (Ps. 90) and this age Mr. Koehring had reached, for at the time of his departure he was aged 70 years, seven months and 29 days.

Those who are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father are the bereaved wife, who is at present in a hospital in Galena, Mo., and therefore unable to attend the funeral of her husband; five children, 12 grandchildren, one brother and one sister, the latter two residing in Germany. The children are Carl and Otto, Mrs. Henry Duvel and Mrs. W. H. O'Brien, all of Ludlow, and Mrs. G. McShane of Waukon. Besides these there are a host of other relatives and friends who mourn the loss of the departed. May the Lord comfort and strengthen all, but especially do we in our prayers remember the widow of the deceased.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our refuge. Be still and know that I am God.

Six boys, grandchildren, officiated as pallbearers and five girls, also grandchildren, officiated as flower girls. The funeral was held from the Salem church the afternoon of May 17, conducted by Rev. Witmeyer and Rev. Stuebbe, the deceased's pastor. He was laid to rest in the Salem cemetery, near the church.

Those in attendance from a distance were Mrs. Otto Klein and two children from Chicago.
