Vernas William Meyer

Services were held Saturday, December 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, for Vernas Meyer who died December 26, at Community Memorial Hospital. Mr. Meyer became ill while working at the Postville school and was taken to the hospital where he died. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.

Vernas William Meyer, the son of Henry Meyer and Lena Schweinefus Meyer was born March 2, 1914 near Ossian. He was baptized into St. Paul Lutheran Church August 20, 1914 by Pastor Schmidt.

On October 10, 1933 he was married to Beulah Harris of Postville and to this union six children were born.

The couple farmed near Postville until 1962. In 1964 he became custodian at the Cora B. Darling Elementary School where he was still employed.

Survivors include his wife Beulah, five daughters, Mrs. James (Elaine) Rima of Biggsville, Illinois; Mrs. Loren (Nancy) Frieden of St. Joseph, Missouri; Mrs. Dyrl (Sharon) Porterfield, Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Kerr and Karen of Postville, a son Dennis of Waukon, 19 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Lena Meyer and a twin brother, Victor Meyer of St. Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father.

Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
