Evelyn Dorothy Kelly, 82, Postville, Iowa, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa, following a long illness. Evelyn was born on September 13, 1927, in Monona, Iowa, to Elmer William and Alice Berdeva (Owen) Franck. She was baptized on December 25, 1927, by Rev. R.W. Berg. Evelyn's father died when she was a child. She spent a lot of time with her grandparents Franck and grandparents Owen, while her mother had to work at various jobs to support her children. She graduated from Monona High School in 1944.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Forest Dale "Toey" Kelly on June 15, 1946, at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. After their marriage, they farmed near Rossville, Iowa, and then they operated Kelly's Tavern in Ossian from 1948-1952. They moved back to the farm near Rossville until moving to Postville in 1967, where they bought the former Waters Dairy Building. They lived there until they moved into the Good Samaritan Home in 2006. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. Evelyn was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Forest Dale "Toey" Kelly; four children, Connie (Dale) Ellis, Elgin, Debra Roberts, Clayton, NC, Dennis Kelly, Spring, TX, Daniel Kelly, Los Angeles, CA; ten grandchildren, Michael Ellis, Tracey Ellis, Kelli Popenhagen, Nicole Steffans, Matthew Ellis, Brad Roberts, Ami Medlin, Brian Roberts, Keri Kelly, Christopher Kelly; eighteen great-grandchildren, Joshua Ellis, Alexander Ellis, Courtland Ellis, Keegan Ellis, Gabrielle Ellis, Skylar Ellis, Reece Popenhagen, Katie Popenhagen, Connor Popenhagen, Zachery Steffans, Mitchell Steffans, Jacob Steffans, Isaac Steffans, Taylor Ellis, Braeden Ellis, Mitchell Medlin, Carson Medlin and Owen Roberts.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Milton Franck and Eugene Timmerman and a son-in-law, Don Roberts.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Gary Catterson will officiate.
Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, Iowa, at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010, two hours before services at the church.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
