Lisa Ann Helgeson 1966-2010

Lisa Ann (Freund) Helgeson peacefully left this life for eternal glory in heaven Saturday, February 13, 2010. She did so in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. She was 43 years old. A memorial was held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Orlando in Orlando, FL.
Lisa was born to John and Donna (Feldman) Freund May 14, 1966 in Dubuque, where she attended Holy Ghost and Wahlert Catholic schools. After high school, she worked as an administrative assistant at the University of Dubuque, where she met her husband, Todd, who was a student at the college. They were married May 26, 1989 and moved to Goldsboro, NC. While there, Lisa worked as an accountant for a law firm while starting her Bachelor degree. As a young wife, Lisa bravely faced the uncertainties of a military wife as Todd was deployed and fought in Desert Storm.
Labor Day 1993, Lisa blessed them with their first son, Richard Todd. After another Air Force move to Columbus, MS in 1994, Lisa completed her Bachelor degree, graduating with honors from the Mississippi University for Women. In October 1996 Lisa and Todd left the Air Force and moved to Chillicothe, IL after Todd accepted a job with United Airlines. While he was away at training, Lisa tirelessly orchestrated the move and supervised construction of their new home while pregnant with Jason Thomas, who brightened their world April 24, 1997.
After two bone-chilling winters in Illinois, the family moved to Orlando in 1999. It was here that they experienced their highest of highs and lowest of lows: They rang in a new millennium with all its hopes and promises; mourned their losses with the tragedies of 9/11; they witnessed the growth of Rick and Jason as they blossomed from young toddlers into young men of strong faith, integrity and character, all under Lisa’s kind and loving watch. Over the past several years the family battled with Lisa as cancer ravaged her body but illuminated her soul and the souls of all who were fortunate enough to call her friend, sister, aunt, cousin, daughter, mom or wife.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Todd; their children, Rick (16) and Jason (12); her father and mother, John and Donna Freund; her father and mother-in-law, Dick and Jan Helgeson; her sister-in-law, Traci Schmitz; her brothers-in-law, Tim (Cami) Helgeson and Terry (Carrie) Helgeson. Survivors also include her siblings, Sue, Jayne and Jack (Kris); God-child John, and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is the niece of Dennis and Linda DeBuhr of Waukon.
Lisa’s compassionate, loving heart, quiet strength, and love of God and humanity were inspiring to all whose lives she touched. She is now in God’s loving arms, her radiant smile illuminating our hearts until we meet again in God’s glorious kingdom.
