Anna Mae Geno, 73, of Waukon died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services were held Monday, February 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Deb Lind-Schmitz officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral, Waukon, in charge of arrangements.
Anna Mae Geno was born July 8, 1936 in Ludlow Township, rural Waukon, the daughter of Frederick and Geneva Zelda (Cahoon) Schlitter. She attended Jefferson Township “Maple Dale” rural school and Waukon High School.
August 9, 1952 she married LaVerne Joseph Geno in San Francisco, CA while LaVerne was in the Navy. Following his discharge, they farmed together in Franklin Township southwest of Rossville, where they raised a dairy herd, hogs, chickens, sheep, beef cattle, and grain. Anna Mae was very active in the farming operation. She also worked as a nurse’s aid and caregiver at Veterans Memorial Hospital and Makee Manor in Waukon as well as for private area families. They continued to live in the country until moving to Waukon in 2004.
Anna Mae was a member of the Franklin Homemakers Club as well as several area square dancing groups and card clubs. She enjoyed music and going dancing. She played in the marching band in high school and later played the accordion and flute by ear. Raising flowers, playing cards, bowling, fishing and traveling were some of her other favorite pastimes.

Survivors include her husband LaVerne of Waukon; four children, Larry (Laura) Geno of Lindstrom, MN, Joe (Deb) Geno of Rochester, MN, Gene Geno of southwest Wisconsin, and LuAnn (Denis Barth) Geno of Decorah; nine grandchildren, Marty (Wendi) Geno, Nicole (Chris) Kalkbrenner, Angela (Tom) Geno-Stumme, Joshua (Carrie) Geno, Micah Geno, Zach Geno, Dana (Paul) Gordon, Dacia (Corey) Warrington, and Jessica Geno; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella (Gordon) Hansmeier of Waukon. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene “Boots” and Stan Ewing.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
