Rachel W. Lindsay Interred Tuesday

The Rev. E. Ray Sims officiated services Tuesday, September 18, 2:00 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home for Rachel W. Lindsay who died September 15 at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, following a lingering illness.

Rachel Williams Lindsay was born July 5, 1888 on a farm in Grand Meadow township, four miles south of Postville, the fourth child of Frederic Larrabee and Dora Pinney Williams.

Entering the Postville schools at the age of six, she graduated from high school in 1906. She then attended Grinnell College where she graduated in the class of 1910.

Until her marriage in 1929 to Robert A. Lindsay, she taught English in high schools in Iowa, South Dakota and Utah, except for two years in Social Service work in Chicago. Her last seven years of teaching were in North high school in Des Moines.

During her years in Des Moines she spent her summer vacations in travel in the Eastern States, Canada, in Europe and the University of Wisconsin in graduate study. After her marriage she spent 16 years in Canada, returning to Postville to care for her mother. Following her mother's death, the Lindsays continued to live in Postville.

Mrs. Lindsay was a member of the Episcopal church, Phi-Beta Kappa, UPW of the Presbyterian Church, Monday Club, Chapter FT of the PEO Sisterhood, the Hanna Lee Chapter of D. A. R. and the Republican Women's club.

Preceding her in death were her five brothers: Joseph R., Hugh, Hewitt L., Victor H. and Lester; and one sister, Katherine Maria Williams.

Survivors included her husband, one brother Richard of Phoenix, AZ and two sisters: Amy Gray of Detroit, MI and Virginia Kyes of LaJolla, CA.

Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
