Death of Mrs. Owen
Mrs. W.A. Owen died at her home on Second St. on Tuesday, death being caused b a stroke of paralysis which she suffered on Monday night. Deceased was 70 years of age, and has been a resident of this city for several years, coming here with her husband from Postville, Iowa. She is survived by a husband and six children, they being Mrs. H.S. Wagner of this city, Mrs. Geo. Kuster of Bell Plain, Minn., Mrs. Geo. Franklin of Seattle, Wash., Eugene Owen of Fairmount, Iowa, and Clarence and Rant Owen of Postville, Iowa. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Fred Pfeiffer and Mrs. Mary McGuire of this city. Sabina E. Maguire was born in London, England, Aug. 15, 1838. At the age of three years she came to America with her parents, settling at Racine, Wis., later moving to Dodge County, where they made their permanent home until her marriage to W.A. Owen, oct. 1, 1865. They still continued to live in Dodge County until the fall of 1879, she with her husband and family moved to Iowa, settling on a farm in Allamakee Co., where they resided until the fall of 1906 when on account of broken health, it became necessary for them to leave the farm and move to Grand Rapids, Wis. where loving hands could care for her in her last days.Here at the family residence she passed away Tuesday, February 23rd, at 2:30, aged 70 years, 6 months and 8 days, death being caused by thrombosis. She was the mother of eleven children, four of whom are dead, three dying in infancy and one son, Geo. W. dying may 18, 1894, aged twenty-three years.
She leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother a husband and seven children, C.H. Owen, Postville, Ia.; E.E. and R.F. Owen, Frankville, Ia.; Mrs. Geo. H. Kuster, Bird Island, Minn.; Mrs. H.S. Wagner, Mrs. May O. Franklin and Mrs. Mattie M. Andress of Grand Rapids, also nine grand children, two sisters Mrs. Fred Pfeiffer and Miss Mary Maguire of Grand Rapids, Wis., and one brother, Geo. Maguire of Beaver Dam, Wis.
The husband and three daughter left on the noon train Wednesday accompanying the remains to their old home at Postville, Ia., where on Thursday, Feb. 25th, from the Bethel, U.B. church, the funeral was held and she was laid at rest in the Hardin cemetery, Rev. Smith of the Postville M.E. church officiating. Rev. Bonnell assisting.
