Donald Hickey Former Cafe' Operator

Services Thursday at Sacred Heart

Donald J. Hickey, 62, of 810 W. 2nd Street, died at 9:15 p.m. Monday of cancer at Schoitz Memorial Hospital.

He and his wife owned and operated Hickey's Restaurant at 1001 East 4th Street for 19 years prior to last October.

Mr. Hickey was born July 7, 1905 in Van Home, the son of James and Nellie Donnelly Hickey. He came here in 1928 and married Hazel Kaeser at Galena, May 22, 1934.

20 years with bakery

After being employed 20 years by the Continental Baking Company, he entered the restaurant business. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; of the Elks, Eagles, and Moose lodges; and the Iowa Restaurant Association.

In addition to his widow, Mr. Hickey is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Richard Clabby, of 1653 Locke Avenue; three grandchildren, and two brothers, Kenneth M. Hickey of 1332 Walker Street and Roy Hickey of Fairfax.

Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs.D.S.Hash of Des Moines, Mrs. Josephine Springer of Charles City; Mrs. William Navin of Madison, Wisconsin; and Mrs. Jack Brady of Wilmette, Illinois. He was preceded in death by parents; one son, James; two brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home where a parish rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Those who wish may give memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society.
