Death of Benedik Johnson at Aase Haugen Home

The death of Benedik Johnson, 89, occurred on Wednesday last at the Aase Haugen Home near Decorah, where he resided the past few years. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Johnson and was born in Birid, Norway, January 24, 1854. He was married while in Norway to Lisa Pederson in October 1874. They came to this country in August 1883, arriving at the home of his brother, Mathias, in Paint Creek Township where they stayed for a short time before establishing their own home. He engaged in farming until after the death of his wife, who passed away in August 1911. He was then employed in LaCrosse for many years. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Geving, and Mrs. Hans Vold, and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers preceded him in death, Mathias, Tollef and Rasmus Johnson. Funeral services were held at the Old West Paint Creek Church Friday afternoon, June 4, conducted by the Rev. E.O. Baalson. Six nephews served as pall bearers, John R. and Robert Johnson, Herb and Theodore Geving, John M. and Melvin Johnson. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Johnson and their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Trouten of Harmony, Minn., and Mrs. Henry Onsager of Decorah.
