Mrs. Gilbert Engen
Relatives and friends of Mrs. Gilbert Engen living about five miles east of Waukon were grieved to hear of her sudden death at her home Wednesday afternoon. For some time her health had not been the best but she was about her work as usual and never complained when she suddenly became ill Wednesday forenoon and death resulted shortly.
Mrs. Engen's maiden name was Mary Sanderson and was born in Allamakee county, December 8, 1854 and resided here continuously. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Engen and to this union 5 children were born. Albert of Thief River Falls, Minn.; Carl, Minneapolis; Mrs. Martha Moe of Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Haftor Aure and Selmer of that vicinity, whom with the husbands are left to mourn the loss of a good mother and wife. She also is mourned by three sisters, Mrs. L.O. Rud, Lansing; Mrs. Hans Fossum, and Mrs. I. Smeby living east of Waukon.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock from the home and from the West Paint Creek Church at two o'clock with services by Rev. Lea. Burial was made in the near by cemetery.Waukon Republican
