John H. Gericke 1874-1964

John H. Gericke, the son of John and Maria (Klinge) Gericke, was born near Postville on July 3, 1874. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, and was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on April 14, 1889. He died at the Community Memorial Hospital on June 4, 1964 at the age of 89 years, 11 months and one day.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Fred and Henry, all of Postville; five sisters, Ida, Mrs. Chris Meyer, of Postville, Bertha, Mrs. Wendell Wagner of Castalia, Amelia, Mrs. Otto Sander of Postville, Senda, Mrs. Ben Morch of Postville and Mathilda, who preceded him in death by only five days.

He is survived by one sister, Amanda, Mrs. William Sebastian of Postville, with whom he has made his home since his retirement in 1947. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. He has lived in this area all of his life, farming north of Postville from 1905 until the time of his retirement.

Funeral Services were held at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, Postville, on Sunday, June 7, at 1:00 p.m. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, officiating.
