Flora Gass Passes; Had Long Career As School Teacher

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city for Miss Flora Gass, 72, who passed away at her home Thursday. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig conducted the service and interment was in Postville cemetery.

As Flora Wilhelmine Johanna Louise, she was born the daughter of the late Reverend John Jacob Gass and Wilhelmine Borgelt Gass at Davenport March 21, 1875. When the family moved to Postville, she accompanied them here and attended the local schools, transferring from Postville high school to Breckenridge College at Decorah. After graduation from that school she attended a teachers college in St. Louis, Mo., from which she graduated in due time.

Upon graduation she entered upon a long and useful career as kindergarten teacher, her entire service being given to two schools, the Wyman and Shepherd schools, in St. Louis, Mo. She retired from teaching on her 70th birthday anniversary and had since made her home with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Erbe, in Postville.

She is survived by six brothers and one sister: Edwin, Walter, Arthur, Herbert and Harold Gass of Postville, Roland Gass of Minneapolis, Minn., and Hertha, Mrs. Arthur G. Erbe, of Postville; two nephews and four nieces. Preceding her in death were her parents and four sisters.
