Funeral services for Walter Foels, 62, Victor, were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1984 at 10 a.m. at the McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home. Officiating was Rev. Jack O. Weida, pastor of the Guernsey United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Walter Albert Foels was born May 4, 1922 in Postville, the son of Arthur and Elizabeth (Wilkie) Foels. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Winneshiek County.

Jan. 21, 1944, Walter was united in marriage to Rosemarie Morch at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. To their marriage were born three sons, James, Stanley and Richard and one daughter, Mildred.

Following his marriage, Walter farmed in the Postville area. Mrs. Foels died in June of 1956. In 1957 Walter moved to Guernsey and Sept. 15, 1957 was united in marriage to Evelyn Ceynar Meyer. Following their marriage they farmed in the Guernsey area until moving to Victor in 1972.

He retired in March of 1984 after over 20 years of employment at Amana Refrigeration. He was also a member of the Guernsey United Methodist Church. He died November 17, 1984 at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a sudden illness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemarie, his grandson Timothy Foels and his brother-in-law George Norden.

Walter is survived by his wife Evelyn of Victor, his children: James of Brooklyn, Stanley of Wheaton, MD, Richard of Springfield, IL. and Mildred, Mrs. Carl Purvis, of Guernsey; his step-children, Ernest Meyer of Victor, Marilyn (Mrs. Francis Kriegel) of Victor, and Larry Meyer of Eagle Grove and 19 grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Ruby (Mrs. George Norden) of Brooklyn and his brother Leo of Postville.
