Katharine E. Fishback, age 91, of New London, Minnesota died Thursday, September 11, 2003 at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Katharine Elvira Fishback was born April 27, 1912 in Huntington, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Albert and Lucretia (Wentz) Lewis. Katharine grew up and attended school in Huntington, WV. At a young age she moved to Decorah, Iowa and later Des Moines, Iowa. Katharine lived for several years in Des Moines where she styled and tailored fur coats and clothing for a company. In 1985 she retired and moved to Spicer, Minnesota shortly after. Since 1994 she has been a resident at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London.

Katharine was a member of Hope United Presbyterian Church. She will be remembered by her family for being a mother who worked very hard to raise four children, and her love and commitment to her family.

Katharine's favorite song was "We Will Gather at the River". When she was a child, she and her family would get dressed up on Sunday mornings and walk together to the river for church services singing this hymn as they went.

Katharine is survived by her son, Charles (Ginger) Fishback of Postville, IA; Donald Fishback of Chesapeake, OH; daughter, Lee Pederson of New London; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marjorie (Gene) Geurin of Windsor, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Clifford; granddaughter Randi Tait; son-in-law Curt Pederson; 3 brothers; and 4 sisters.

A Memorial Service was held on Monday, September 15, 2003, at Hope United Presbyterian Church, rural Spicer, Minnesota, with Rev. Terry Sletto and Rev. Jack Anderson officiating. Inurnment was at Oak hill Cemetery in New London, Minnesota.
