ED BRANDT DIED OF BROKEN NECK IN FARM ACCIDENT.

Ed Brandt, 59, died of a broken neck about 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at his Ludlow township farm when he fell through a barn door while hay was being put in. A group of neighbors and Brandt’s son, Ralph were putting hay into the barn and Brandt was standing on a beam at the barn opening. He was struck by a load of hay and fell into the building, striking the floor on his head. He fell about 15 feet.

Death was instantaneous. Deputy Sherifff R. J. Waters and Mrs. R. W. Pateman, acting for Coroner Pateman, investigated the accident. Brandt’s neck had been broken in the fall, as observed by witnesses, so no inquest was ordered.

Funeral services will be held for Edward Brandt Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from Bakke and Hanson funeral home and 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem Presbyterian church. The Rev. Mr. John Bartell will officiate. A complete obituary will be published later in Waukon Newspapers.
