B. O. SWEBAKKEN FUNERAL FRIDAY FROM ST. JOHN’S

Last rites for B. O. Swebakken will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from St. John’s Lutheran church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Martin’s will be in charge, and the body will be at the funeral home until Friday noon.

Mr. Swebakken died Tuesday night following a long illness. He was 83 years old August 4 of this year.

A life-long resident of Allamakee county, he was born in Jefferson township, and had been interested in farming in his earlier years. He was an extensive landholder.

Mr. Swebakken was married April 4, 1901 to Dorothea Munson. They had one daughter, who died in infancy. Mrs. Swebakken passed away April 24, 1940, at Rochester, Minn.

On June 28, 1941, Mr. Swebakken was married to Mrs. Nettie Quandahl Morstad at Decorah. She preceded him Aug. 1, 1948. Remaining are one brother Peter Swebakken of Waterville and the stepchildren, Harold Morstad of Denver, Colo., John Morstad of Decorah, Philip Morstad of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. E. N. Donbroskey of Winter Park, Fla.

Mr. Swebakken was long active in public affairs. He served as deputy sheriff of Allamakee county under Sheriff George Hall, and was elected to the office of sheriff in 1909, serving two terms. He was also active in affairs of the Democratic party, was a member of the Elks lodge and the Masonic order. He was for many years, and at the time of his death, a member of the Allamakee county inheritance tax committee.
