John Pladsen, 61 of Waukon, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness. Private family graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with arrangements.
John Theodore Pladsen was born March 3, 1941, at the New Albin home of his parents, Joseph and Margaret (Waters) Pladsen. He attended Jefferson Township rural schools, Waukon High School, and graduated from Kirkwood Community College. From 1959 to 1963, he served as a Corporal in the US Marine Corps. On May 22, 1965, he married Mary Hall. They lived near Palo, Iowa, until 1975, when they returned to Allamakee County. John farmed the family farm in Jefferson Township and also worked for Empire Gas and Gary's Tractor and Implement Repair, both of Waukon. He enjoyed farming and spending rime with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife Mary of Waukon; two sons, James Pladsen of Waukon and John (fiancé Debra Hanson) Pladsen of Rochester, Minn.; his mother Margaret Pladsen of Waukon; and a sister, Joana Pladsen of Waukon . He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph.©Waukon Standard 2003
